National Kids and Pets Day – April 26th Is Here!

Hi Readers,

Kids and dogs are a great combination. In fact, one of the first thing dog lovers will look for in a pet is one who’s good with kids. Many families with dogs also include children. April 26th is National Kids and Pets Day and it’s a great time to celebrate these lasting and loving friendships.

Studies show that kids benefit from dog ownership just as much as adults do. Making sure the two interact well can take a little work, however. Read this article for valuable information: How to Keep Dogs and Kids Together

P.S. If your dog could speak, would they be embarrassed by some of the things you make them do? I’m talking the really silly stuff, like dressing them up in funny outfits? I’d love to see the pictures. Send them to photos@petplace.com...if your dog will let you!

TODAY'S PET TIP

Barking Dogs

The first step to stopping barking is to understand why it is happening. Dogs bark for all kinds of reasons, including anxiety, boredom and/or loneliness. Sometimes they bark just because it feels good.

Luckily, most dogs will respond to one or other intervention to curtail their barking. Whether you simply bring an outdoor dog inside or take the time to apply behavior-modification techniques, you can cause a dog to be less of a nuisance and to be more socially acceptable.

For more information, please read the story When Barking is a Problem.
