My Three Favorite Dog Toys

Hi Readers,

Dogs love to play. Play is important and interesting.  A pet's imagination is boundless. Their play can be spontaneous and whimsical. Dogs engage in play as youngsters and continue to do so even after they have grown up.

Play is a complex learning activity that helps puppies develop social relationships. It also helps them hone their physical and mental skills.

But let's not forget that play is also fun, which is why adult dogs continue to do it. You can spend many enjoyable hours just watching with amusement as your dog plays.

Make sure your dog has plenty of opportunity to play and lots of different toys to play with. Having a good selection of toys will prevent your dog from becoming bored with the same toy day after day.

Here are my three favorite dog toys:

Bottle Crunchers -  This is a very cool idea - a Bottle Cruncher is a durable cover that fits snugly over an empty water bottle so your dog can chew on it safely. (Dogs like to chew on empty water bottles to hear the "crunch", but sometimes the broken plastic can cut their mouths. Bottle Crunchers will protect your dog's mouth and gums so he can chew safely.) When the empty water bottle inside the Bottle Cruncher breaks down, just open the Velcro tabs and pop in a new bottle. Bottle Crunchers are machine washable and come in a package of 2 brightly colored fun designs.

The Tuffy Ultimate Ring Toy - The Tuffy Ultimate Ring is a very durable 10-inch ring toy that can take all the fetching, tugging, drooling and punishment your dog can dish out. This toy floats, squeaks and is perfect for fetching. Dogs just love it, and so will you because it's built to last. It is made with multiple layers of heavy-duty industrial-grade luggage material and reinforced with 7 layers of cross-stitching. When this toy gets dirty, just toss it in the washing machine and it looks as good as new.

Zogoflex® TUX™Chew Toy - The TUX is made strong to last long with Zogoflex - a super-durable rubber-like material that's made to stand up to your dog's teeth. If your dog is a chewer, this is the toy for you! For added fun, fill the hollow cavity of this chew toy with your dog's favorite treats. The unusual shape of this toy makes it easy for your dog to pick up and carry in his mouth. And you dog will love playing with it in so many different ways, with or without the treats. It is so durable it's guaranteed to last, and it's dishwasher safe so it's easy to clean.

Watching a dog play is one of the most entertaining "perks" of owning a dog, and your dog is going to LOVE playing with my three favorite toys.

Remember, a busy dog is a happy dog with less behavioral problems. So keep your dog busy playing with some great toys. It will keep you both happy!

Until next time,

Dr. Jon

TODAY'S PET TIP

Antifreeze and Dogs

Antifreeze is a common poison. It has a sweet taste and pets will consume it readily. A little more than 3 tablespoons could be lethal for a 22 pound (10 kg) dog.
