Take the..."Give Your Pet a Better Life" Challenge

Hi Readers,

We all want the best for our dogs. Recently I read some information regarding a campaign about giving a pet a "better life".  The promotion is called the Get a Better Life Challenge. I'm all for giving pets the best life possible so I found this interesting.

After all - we want our dogs to be happy.  Have you ever thought about how happy your dog is ... or if your dog has the best life possible?

One thing that really makes a difference in a dog's physical health and mental well-being is his weight. Obesity is a problem. Obese pets have more medical problems and physically just can't do as much.

What can you do? Take the Hill's Get a Better Life Challenge.

The challenge is simple. Here's what you do:

1. Visit your vet to "size" up your dog
2. Figure out a plan on how to get your dog to the perfect weight

Read more - go to: "Hill's Get a Better Life Challenge".

You also have a chance to win free food. This is a great way to determine if your dog is obese and gives you the power to change it.

I hope you really take a minute and consider if your dog is overweight and  take the steps to ensure that he or she has the best life possible.

Until next time,

Dr. Jon

P.S. Also, you can enter for a chance to win free pet food. Go to: http://getabetterlife.petfit.com/betterlife

P.P.S. Don't forget to get "before" and "after" pictures. I'd love to see the difference in your pet.

Feeding Dogs Canned vs. Dry Food

What type of food is preferred for dogs? Here are some general rules:

For puppies (less than 8-9 months and less than 30 pounds): Feed your puppy a consistent canned, semi-moist or dry dog food designed for puppies. If your dog weighs more than 30 pounds, dry food is preferred for greater caloric density.

For adult dogs: Feed your dog a consistent canned, semi-moist or dry dog food designed for an "adult" dog. All the above are adequate as long as it is a good quality food. If your dog weighs more than 30 pounds, dry food is preferred for greater caloric density.
